Welcome to the mas “Le Piè des Ayrolis”

This spacious and comfortable house is located close to Nyons and the Mont Ventoux, in the Drôme Provençale. It offers 6 bedrooms with their own bathroom, and can accommodate 10 persons. A large kitchen, airy living rooms, generous patios, a swimming pool, and stunning views bode well for moments of joyful togetherness, yet allowing for tranquil space for each and every one.

Eyroles is the smallest and sunniest village in the Drôme. Facing South, it enjoys a micro climate thanks to the hill (“piè” in old provençal) which protects it from the North winds. In Eyroles, even in winter, when the whole Rhone valley shivers in the cold Mistral, you can enjoy the sun and the patio in short sleeves.

Every season has something to offer visitors: blossoming almond trees as early as February, followed by the spring blooming season all the way to June and the fragrant scent of genista. The cicadas’ song, the cherries, apricots, tomatoes, aubergines, the pastis and the rosé, the abundance of summer; the vine, the hunt, the shimmering foliage on the wooded slopes and the joy of the fireplace on an autumn evening; the harvest of the famous Nyons olive and the truffle starting in December; and the whole year round, the sun, the thyme and the juniper all over the mountains, hikes and bicycle, horseback, or motorbike rides through grandiose and luminous scenery.

The house

We have made sure the house integrates seamlessly in its environment. Traditional building materials, insulation, and dual flow ventilation through a Canadian well guarantee coolness without air-conditioning in the summer and keep up the living temperature in winter. Our ideal: Space, quiet, intimacy, light, serenity.

Activities

Immerse yourself in nature

Hikes in the Drôme

Exploration treks, sports hikes or family outings, or just a walk with friends. Lose yourself among the wind-swept herd crests, climb up to Mévouillon, slip down to the cool Eygues, Bentrix, or Ouvèze valleys, explore the Trente Pas, Toulourenc or Méouge gorges.

On request, we can recommend routes, plan and/or accompany your hiking tour.

Horseback riding

The horse. How can you better explore and wander through the secret hideaways of the Baronies? Without much ado or snobbery, in a friendly and good-humoured spirit, discover the pleasures of open-air horseback riding, and cover serious distances in the best conditions.

Fishing

Fish are thriving in the Baronnies rivers (barbel, chub, trout ...). You can fish in the Eygues, the Oule, or in the Pas des Ondes lake. You can obtain a fishing permit from the AAPMA "la gaule de l'Eygues et l'Oule” (“The Eygues and Oule fishing rods”). You can also fish for rainbow trout in the “L’Eau claire” fish farm in Saint-Ferréol.

The Baronnies vultures

The Saint-Laurent plateau, above Saint-May, which you reach after a short and easy walk, towers over the Rocher du Caire, a vulture breeding ground. At present, there are several dozen couples of these majestic birds, which can span up to three meters. They were reintroduced in the Drôme provençale in 1996.

Fauna and hunting

The Eyroles fauna is abundant. Wander the mountain as Marcel Pagnol once did, tracking partridge, hare, or woodcock. Observe deer and chamois in the Eygues gorges. It looks like wolf and lynx have made it back to the Angèle. Wild boar hunting is a traditional winter activity. You’ll validate first your permit at the Fédération des chasseurs de la Drôme and get a card from de Eyroles hunting association.

On request, we can organise your hunting stay.

Sport

Cycle up the Mont Ventoux and in the Drôme.

The Drôme is a cyclist’s paradise. Sumptuous sceneries, marvellous small and uncrowded yet well maintained roads, a welcoming forecast all year round, all levels of cycling routes, from the level valley floors to the "cols hors categories" on the Mont Ventoux, through small "cols" of varying length and difficulty.

On request, we can recommend routes, plan and/or accompany your rides. We organise cycling stays.

MTB in the Baronnies

The area surrounding Eyroles will excite MTB aficionados who will find a fantastic playground here. They will discover unexpected sceneries, colours and scents, which are the most natural and normal thing here. Check out the 3 MTB bases near Eyroles (Nyons, Saint-Ferréol and Sainte-Jalle).

Ski

Two stations in Le Dévoluy, about an hour and fifteen minutes from Eyroles and in the middle of the Alpes du Sud, offer over 100 km of skiing and snowboarding for all skill levels, at an altitude of between 1500 and 2500 meters. The joy of a full day of mountain skiing with family or friends in the middle of winter, before returning to the mildness of Eyroles.

Golf

The Valdaine course (18 holes - par 71 - 5499 m), close to Montélimar, is famed for the quality of its condition. It is open to all levels. The start is fairly wide, but coming back the course narrows, allowing all styles of play to come into their own. Practice. Introductory courses.

Adventure

Climbing, via ferrata, and canyoning

A wide variety of limestone cliffs offers climbers all sorts of challenges, combining pleasure and performance. Gorgeous spots in Eyroles, le Buis or Orpierre. Thanks to an exceptional climate, canyoning can be practiced almost all year long.

Gliding, ULM

You never got into a glider, or even on a plane, and you wish to elevate yourself? An introductory flight is just the thing for you! An instructor will accompany you and reveal all gliding secrets. First a briefing, then buckling up, and off you go for a 30 or 60 minute flight, or even longer.

Paragliding

You’ll take off with your instructor on a double-seater for at least 20 minutes in ascending currents, and discover all angles of paragliding, working the thermal and dynamic currents. Weather conditions permitting, you may even get to sail the paraglider yourself.

Motorbike / Quad

For the green bike lovers, Patrick Cerdan, a mountain guide and experienced trail biker, will join you on your trips and will make you discover his home country over little known and exciting trails. He’ll even rent out a bike if you didn't bring yours.

Whether you’re a beginner or an experienced driver, you can experience the thrill all year round. From the age of 7 (and 1,30 m) you can drive a kart adapted to your age on your own. Two-seater karts allow you to take the smaller children with you, or help disabled people discover the joys of karting.

Relaxing - wellness

The Montbrun hot springs.

Thanks to its very sulphurous water springs, Montbrun-les-Bains has been a famous spa ever since the Roman era. The spa also offers treatment for arthrosis and rheumatism, and a fitness centre with thermal pool, hammam, sauna, panoramic terrace with jacuzzi, etc...

Provence Colours

Côtes du Rhône wines

Châteauneuf-du-Pape, Vacqueyras, Gigondas, Beaumes de Venise, Cairanne, Vinsobres, Sablet, Rasteau, Crozes, Hermitage... The Rhône valley vineyards: a whole new world to discover, grapes, flavours, soil, craftsmen. Enjoy!

On request, we can organise private wine tasting sessions at the wine producers.

Nyons olives and olive oil

De Baronnies climate and soil, and a local variety, the Tanche, make for a very special olive. The Nyons black olive (A.O.P.) is harvested when fully mature (December, January). The olive’s natural bitterness has by then considerably dropped. The Nyons olive oil (A.O.P.) is very unctuous, finely fruity, and a dark green colour.

The Provence markets

The weekly marché is an institution. Bustling and colourful, it has everything, and of course, savoury and fresh local products. A relaxing and sociable activity to immerse yourself in the atmosphere of the Provence. Market in Nyons is on Thursdays, le Buis on Wednesdays, and Vaison on Tuesdays.

Truffle market in Richerenches

The Drôme is the number 1 truffle producer in France. Don’t attempt to walk into a truffière without permission! The owners are very protective of their produce. The truffle market in Richerenches officially opens in November, and lasts through mid-March.

Roussillon ochre

Ochre is a natural pigment that has been used forever to colour Man’s craft. The old ochre quarries in the Lubéron offer fascinating and colourful routes. The surprising hues of the dunes, buttes, columns and coloured sand ravines contrast with the deep blue Provence sky. A trip to the Provence Colorado.
